Artwork > A Specter of Me (Loving Me)

In July 2019 I had the opportunity to be the Artist in Residence at The Ou Gallery in on Vancouver Island, British Colombia.

I traveled to The Ou with a 60"x76" sheet of raw canvas in my backpack, as well as a jacket made of canvas, sewn for me by a close friend. During my time at the residency, I worked on both the canvas sheet and the jacket, making treating them as painting surfaces and interactive objects in a cyclical process of performance, reflection, and modification.

This project was an exploration of concept of 'wear and tear' and preciousness, and a forced confrontation for myself in my anxiety around loss, as it relates to both painting as a medium and the body.
